Discovery is about uncovering dependencies between applications, devices, users and workloads. So discovery is really all about providing visibility then – Visibility is the end-goal.
And whilst agentless discovery solutions (a.k.a traditional network scanning) promises visibility using a combination of discovery, profiling and classification techniques, reality couldn’t be further from the truth. Operational challenges of placing network appliances or probes across multi-site environments leaves islands of visibility, and not providing that comprehensive view that you were looking for. It can also expensive, and sometimes impossible to place packet-capture everywhere you need.
Visibility on dependencies are also limited through agentless/network solutions – even if you see traffic flows from Server A to Server B, there is no way to tell for sure if the traffic is part of Application A or Application B.
Perhaps we have been looking at the problem from the wrong angle. If we agree that visibility is the end goal, over-dependence on agentless solutions (a.k.a traditional network scanning) might not help to achieve your visibility goals. On the other hand, whilst agent-based solutions are excellent in providing a holistic view (capturing and reporting hardware, software, and traffic information as it happens), the problem with discovering unknown and unmanaged devices in your environment remains.
So, we thought, why not have the best of both worlds?
An agent-based solution that provides comprehensive visibility and does discovery of devices at the same time!
Rethinking the problem guided our vision to an innovative and distributed way of discovering devices across all environments – leaving no islands of visibility and making it easy for large complex multi-site environments.
With the enterprise perimeter fast expanding beyond on-premise networks, we saw a new need for visibility across all environments – on and off premise, cloud and hybrid data centers. Perimeter-based discovery tools are no longer apt in today’s dynamic and complex digital world.
Our mission is to empower our customers to automate workloads discovery and mapping across all their environments.
We want our customers to trust their network again through a holistic visualization of their infrastructure and all its dependencies.
